New Indie Pop singing sensation with her quirky voice and style tipped to make in big in 2011 speaks exclusively to Nation.
As I walk through the cobbled streets of Notting Hill I’m not sure what to expect from Daisy. She is known mainly for her hiccupy vocals and kooky dress sense, inevitable talent for song writing; a number one already under her belt- Grabbing the nation’s attention and becoming a total muse. With a fierce fan base and a huge amount of followers on her blog- her immense popularity overshadows the likes of previous indie pop artists hoping to make it big in the upcoming year. Oh, and did we mention she’s just 19?
As I reach our meeting point I searched the coffee shop thinking that any minute I will be met with Daisy and possible and wamp of Paparazzi. However am surprised to see her sitting in the corner- feet up on chair and looking every inch the “Indie chick” she’s made out to be. I hurry, excited to start the interview- I’m met with Daisy as she stands up and formally shakes my hand, she chuckles to herself and says “Take it you’re the person that is fortunate enough to spend your afternoon with me- I’m a little hung over so can we order a coffee before we start?”. Slightly taken back by her confidence I agree and after a few minutes we both sit back on the antique maroon armchair situated in the corner of Portobello.
“So, Daisy you seem very busy at the moment, everybody wants interviews and photo shoots. When was your last day off?”
Yeah, suppose it’s pretty crazy. I manage my time well though, always been one of my strengths. If I’m not doing interviews then I’m down the studio but hey no way am I complaining!
Daisy, sits there sipping her coffee, feet still up on the opposite chair- Responsible for the “pretty dress and biker boots look” which she is confidently wearing today along with her vibrant red ray bans perfectly blending in with the vibe in Portobello on a Sunday afternoon.
“How did you land your record deal then?”
I’d been playing at local pubs for years- Always full of boring old twats moaning about the loudness of the music, but I needed experience. Then I went on to playing at “Kiko” down Camden a close friend of mine got me on the list to play at the Gig. Without me knowing there was a song producer there who came up to me after telling me about his record deal and yeah went from there really- Probably one of the best moments of my life, after I found out he was authentic!
How would you describe your music?
Indie pop is the genre in which my music falls into, though I Hate to be placed into some sort of category. I like to see myself as being dynamic; lots of things inspire my music and let’s just say the magic happens in the studio- After a lot of planning and thinking. I’m kinda like Musical Marmite. Love or hate? I don’t really give a shit; I’m doing what I love.
What do you think 2011 will bring for you?
Daisy does the sign of “Rock and roll” with her hands and squeals with excitement. Life is all about having a good time, roll on this year. Just want keep producing my music, touring and having my family and friends close to me- Can’t ask for much else!
You’re starting to get a little known for your constant papped pictures stumbling out of north London clubs early hours of the morning sometimes labelled as “Party Girl Daisy”- Do you think you’re presenting yourself as a good role model?
It’s made out in the papers that I’m getting paid for turning up at these clubs, no. I’m simply having a good time with my pals- Doing what every 18 year old girl would do in the 21st Century. The only difference is, I’m getting photographed doing it. I never asked to be a role model- Never mentioned that in the job description did it Ha!
Any love interests?
Look, I am entitled to a little bit of privacy in my life surely? Having the lime light pushed on does make it hard, However my music is what is important, Not who I’m supposedly shagging! Next question?
I sense that she has had that question pushed on to her many times which has inevitably annoyed her, also the sense of privacy is shown to be extremely important to her and she intends to keep her private life hidden as much as possible. Is her quirky style some sort of façade to distract people from the real Daisy?
Its been said you performing at isle of Wight festival in the summer, is that true? And do you see yourself headlining at Festivals such as Glastonbury and Reading in the near future?
Am I? Wow that’s the first I’ve heard of that one, I would absolutely love to- As performing is what I do best and it’s where I come alive- Obviously if I was given the chance I would grab it, however I’m taking things slow. It’s too easy to look at the big picture; I’m concentrating on my new album “Nights” which is due to be released in March 2011 so we will have to see! But headlining at Glastonbury- Well soon as you’ve done that you’ve pretty much made it haven’t you!
Fix me is out to buy on Itunes NOW!
