double page spread grabs

Double page spread

I liked the idea of NME's double page spread with the typeface in a black background as if it has been printed on a newspaper. Therefore visited www.dafont.com and found a suitable font named Impact label. Using IDesign I downloaded the font and inserted it into the DPS. I believe this worked well within the DPS and connotated with the photographs on my model holding the black rimmed frame.

Next, I opened Idesign with 6 columns which would contain my text. I had to move the columns around slightly in order for all the text to fit properly and used a size 10 font which looked well on the double page.

In terms of images used, I wanted to use three photographs making it look like a movie script. I chose three of the best photographs and edited them in photoshop using the brightness, contrast, saturation and tools such as healing tool to cover up any blemi
shes.

Throughout the process, I have a certain house style which uses graphics. Therefore, four my double page spread I opened photoshop and went through the patterns to find a suitable graphic to go on my double page spread. I found this graphic (above) which is very similiarily used in NME. Additionally I thought it worked well with the overall house style and typeface used.

As you can see, I thought I should use a pull out quote as this is used a lot in music magazines. I inserted the text and used the same typeface on my cover and contents- This enhances the house style used. In addition, around the pull out quote I have added the graphics. Additionally, I went on photoshop and found another pattern that would be appropriate for my double page spread-Then I inserted this into Indesign.

Looking at different magazines, some pull out quotes are situated in the middle of the article and merged into. Therefore using indesign I merged the text so the typeface around it looks like it is surrounding it. Then, I thought it needed some type of effect and used the drop shadow to enhance the text and create a shadow.

The use of a drop cap is a main convention in magazines therefore thought it was essential to use it in my music magazine. Using the drop cap tool on indesign I selected an appropriate typeface and englarged the "N" to start the article off. I believe this looks very effective and proffesional which is my main aim throughout the process.
